I am a professor in the Physics Department at Furman University, where I teach courses in physics and astronomy, and manage the Timmons Planetarium in the new Townes Science Center.
When I'm not teaching, my research interests include the study of the remnants of supernovae, radio pulsars, and the promotion of astronomy through education and outreach. Currently, I and Furman students are collaborating with UNC-Asheville astronomers to develop a two-element interferometer, the Dedicated Interferometer for Rapid Variability (DIRV), at the PARI site using their 26-m telescopes at 2.2 and 8.4 GHz.
I was a mentor on the team project, "Sensing the Radio Sky", funded by an NSF IPSE grant. Our group developed the materials and curriculum for radio astronomy education for the Starlab inflatable planetarium built by Learning Technologies, Inc. Another outreach program that I'm involved with is PARI's School of Galactic Radio Astronomy (SGRA), which instructs middle and high school teachers how to use an internet-controlled radio telescope.
